About Us

We are both biologists, but of different stripes.

Sergey Kryazhimskiy is a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University trying to uncover the hidden rules behind evolution. Often this means pondering what on earth yeast are up to.  When he isn't experimenting with them in the lab, he also enjoys experimenting with them in the kitchen. This has lead to multiple discoveries, yet mixed results.

Shermin de Silva is a behavioral ecologist with a passion for pachyderms and the preservation of "blank spots on the map".  She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University.  When she isn't trying to figure out what elephants are doing, she is trying to figure out what she is doing. Read more about proboscideans at Shermin's other blog here. She also moonlights as a science correspondent for The Fair Observer.

Sergey & Shermin are both on the board of Trunks & Leaves Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to conserving elephants and their habitat through public education and advocating for science-based conservation.
